Due to an appointment last Thursday, Longfellow had GATE Wednesday the 18th and today, Thursday the 19th. Yesterday, we began our Egg Drop Challenge! Unlike the other grades, fifth grade had the added challenge of purchasing their materials from me. Each group received a team budget of $10 and they were challenged to create an egg drop vessel for $10 or less. They were also challenged to decorate it to be judged by their classmates with a prize for the group who created the cheapest, best looking, functional vessel. At first, they didn't think it could be done, but after some reassurance they decided to give it a try! :) It was quite a challenge, but they rose to it and have exceeded expectations so far! Not a single design has been the same! Their materials were: tape, glue, plastic bags, straws, yarn, cotton balls, rubber bands, paper plates, bathroom cups, punch cups, sponges, paper clips, and decorations for their creations! It was a challenge to come up with designs that would work, but the kids soldiered on! We will continue building today, pictures will be posted once they have finished building. We have a second building day today for students who need more time. Those that have finished will be doing an Escape the Box Challenge!
